Update November 2006
Plans for a cinema for Yate are still alive, but have been delayed by the sale
of Yate shopping centre by previous owners CIT.
Northavon MP Steve Webb has had a meeting with representatives of the
new owners, the Englander Group,
and has stressed how important a cinema is to local
people.
They are currently working on the first phase of
changes to the shopping centre, but have promised to bring forward
detailed plans in 2007 and have indicated that a site for a cinema is
likely to be included in these plans.
We have had a massive response to the
Cinema4Yate campaign. Hundreds of survey forms were posted back to Steve
Webb, and a great response from this site, where replies were received on
behalf of 1230 adults, 1250 teenagers and almost 400 children.
Previous shopping centre owners CIT were impressed by the extent of the
grassroots campaign and included a cinema site in their blueprint for the new centre.
We are very encouraged by this
progress, and a big thank you to everyone who has responded. There
are still a few hoops to jump through, but please keep the survey replies
coming in, and hopefully we will soon have a brand new cinema in the
centre of Yate!
